Transitions and Change
Life is all about transitions and change. How well we make the transitions and adapt to changes determines how much we enjoy the journey. At threescore and ten we have been through a lot of transitions and adapted to many changes. Now we approach another transition that will bring change to our lives. After more than 20 years serving as a husband-wife team as the Journal Editor and the Secretary/Treasurer we are transitioning out of these roles. The transition is planned to be complete by 31 August 2019. We have enjoyed our journey with the NACTA organization and feel pleased with the transitions and changes that we have participated in over the 20 years. We will (somewhat) miss the daily duties of NACTA which have become part of our routine. But more than anything, we will miss the interaction with the members of NACTA. During the 20 years we experienced the kindness and friendship of many great people who have been and who are members of NACTA. We always looked forward to the annual conference where we could visit with our NACTA friends and make new friends.
To paraphrase Winnie-the-Pooh (A.A. Milne), “How lucky we are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” And maybe goodbye is not the right word since we should “never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting” (J.M. Barrie in Peter Pan). We will not forget because we collected so many fond memories over 20 years.
“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end” (Semisoni). What our future holds is uncertain, but we do know that we will be spending more time with our 28 grandchildren and their parents as they enjoy the transitions and changes in their journey through life. We do know too that we will become great-grandparents in October – a new experience for us. Rick will continue to write and to teach a few classes. Marilyn will work on family history and make more memories with grandkids.
“Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.”
